Hepatozoon perniciosum (n.g., n.sp.) by William Whitfield Miller Download PDF EPUB FB2

Hepatozoon muris, formerly known as H. perniciosum, is an apicomplexan parasite in the family Haemogregarinidae. Miller first described this parasite from laboratory rats in Washington. D.C. (Miller, ). Schizogony takes place in the parenchymal cells of the liver.

Public Health and Marine Hospital Service.; National Institutes of. The genus Hepatozoon was created by Miller in for a parasite of the white rat (Rattus norvegicus) that underwent merogony in the liver and sporogony in the mite Laelap echidinus. Ledger initially placed this genus in the family Haemogregarinidae, but Wenyon subsequently removed it and placed it in the newly created taxon Hepatozoidae in Clade: TSAR.

Some studies in snakes indicated effects in the host, from slight influences on fitness to severe effects on growth rate, reproduction and offspring survival by: 1. First molecular characterization of a hepatozoon species (apicomplexa: Hepatozoidae) infecting birds and description of a new species infecting storm petrels (Aves: Hydrobatidae).

Introduction. Mites are important group of arthropod pests affecting crops, animals and humans. The spiny rat mite, Echinolaelaps echidninus occurs throughout the world as a parasite of the Norway rat (brown rat), Rattus norvegicus and occasionally of other rodents (Keegan, ).E.

echidninus received the attention of several authors since the start of twentieth century. Life cycles and molecular data for terrestrial haemogregarines are reviewed in this article. Collection material was re-examined: Hepatozoon argantis Garnham, in Argas brumpti was reassigned to Hemolivia as Hemolivia argantis (Garnham, ) n.

comb.; parasite DNA was extracted from a tick crush on smear of an archived slide of Hemolivia stellata in Amblyomma rotondatum, then the 18S. Haemogregarines are protist parasites that belong to the Phylum Apicomplexa, Class Conoidasida, Order Eucoccidiorina, and Suborder Adeleorina, and include the following seven families: Adeleidae, Dactylosomatidae, Haemogregarinidae, Hepatozoidae, Karyolysidae, Klossiellidae, and Legerellidae.

There are two major genera, Haemogregarina and Hepatozoon, in addition to several minor ones. The present Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) study includes morphological observations on male Echinolaelaps echidninus with particular attention to the undescribed details of its gnathosoma, palpal organ and pulvilli that have rarely described in males of superfamily Dermanyssoidea.
